Your Lord is All-Forgiving, full of mercy. Had He wished to take them to task for their doings, He would have hastened in sending His scourge upon them. But He has set for them a time-limit which they cannot evade. (al-Kahf 18: 58)

He will always continue to forgive, and He will always have mercy, and if Allah S were to deal with you as you deserve in fairness, the punishment would have come right now. But they will have some time to think, to seek forgiveness and be guided if they want. But if they don’t take advantage of that time then they will never find an escape from the time that Allah S has placed for them.

Allah S offers a consolation to the Prophet f and to us, and a threat to the Quraysh. Sometimes we question and the Muslims in the time of the Prophet f also questioned. Bilāl t asked where is Allah’s S ʿadhāb upon these people, why doesn’t He take them to account now, why are the Muslims suffering in this manner? We too ask the same when we see the situation in the world, such as what is happening in Syria and beyond. Allah S says:
